Letter template:
Dear [Insert TD’s Name / Minister Darragh O’Brien],
I am writing to express my strong and urgent opposition to the planned construction of a fracked gas import terminal at Ballylongford, County Kerry.
This terminal, proposed by multi-billion dollar company, New Fortress Energy, is not just an environmental concern — it is a threat to public health, to climate stability, to international human rights, and to Ireland’s global reputation.
This is not simply a matter that only affects the local community in Ballylongford – it affects the entire country’s energy bills, as well as the global climate domestic energy policy. The decision about whether to build the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal that would import fracked gas from the USA is a test of Ireland’s ethics, climate obligations, and solidarity with vulnerable communities worldwide. We plead with you now, do not walk away from climate mitigation in Ireland and duly oppose the terminal to stay on the right side of climate and energy justice.
My Demands
As your constituent, I call on you to:
1. Publicly oppose the Shannon LNG terminal and demand its cancellation.
2. Reject any state or private partnership that would enable the import of fracked gas.
3. Condemn New Fortress Energy’s role in funding military-linked tech ventures.
4. Support immediate legislation banning the importation of fracked gas into Ireland.
5. Uphold Ireland’s climate commitments and ethical responsibilities to human rights.
Stand With Communities — Stand With Justice
This is a historic choice. The eyes of Ireland — and the world — are watching.
I urge you to stand on the right side of history.
No to Fracked Gas.
No to Fossil Colonialism.
No to Complicity in Genocide.
Sincerely,
